Public Hearing

The Illinois Department of Transportation cordially invites you to attend the open house public hearing* concerning the improvement of IL 47 (US 14 - Charles Rd), in the City of Woodstock, McHenry County. The hearing will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at the Challenger Learning Center, 222 E. Church Street, Woodstock, Illinois 60098. The purpose of the hearing is to present and obtain public input on the preferred alternative and the Environmental Assessment.

Interested persons may attend anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Exhibits will be on display and an audiovisual presentation will be shown continuously during the meeting. A Public Forum will begin at 6 p.m., where the public will be invited to make a statement to a court reporter. Project team members will be present to discuss the project and answer questions. Written comments can be accepted at the meeting, mailed after the meeting, or submitted via the project website at www.IL47WoodstockStudy.com.

The EA has been completed and will be presented at the public hearing. The EA describes the purpose and need of the proposed project, alternatives considered, the recommended preferred alternative, anticipated environmental impacts, project benefits, and potential mitigation measures. It will be available for public review and comment on the project website at IL47WoodstockStudy.com; and at the Woodstock Public Library, Woodstock City Hall, and the Department's District One office in Schaumburg located at the address below. Comments will be accepted via mail and on the project website through June 21, 2018.

Public Meeting #3

The third public meeting for the IL 47 Phase I Study was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Challenger Learning Center, 222 Church Street, Woodstock, Illinois from 4-7 PM. The purpose of the meeting was to present the project Purpose and Need, proposed alternatives, and obtain public input. Proposed alternatives presented consist of widening and reconstruction of IL 47 to provide for additional through and turning lanes, barrier curb median, potential improvements to bicycle and pedestrian systems, and intersection alternatives including roundabouts.

Exhibits were on display and an audio-visual presentation was shown continuously. Project team members were present to discuss the project and to answer questions. Written comments were accepted at the meeting, can be mailed after the meeting, or submitted through the project website. Comments received by July 23, 2014 will become part of the official public meeting record.

The second public meeting for the Illinois Route 47 Phase I Study was held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Challenger Learning Center, 222 Church Street, Woodstock, Illinois from 4-7 PM. The meeting was an open house format with a continuous PowerPoint presentation, exhibit boards for review, and large scale aerials of the study area to which meeting attendees were encouraged to provide suggestions for the development of project alternatives, and also identify issues and concerns.
