Project Study Team

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will act as joint lead agencies for preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Illinois Route 47 project in order to satisfy NEPA requirements. As such, FHWA (Division Administrator) and IDOT (Secretary of Transportation) are ultimate decision-makers for this project.

Illinois Department of Transportation

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 1 is leading the Illinois Route 47 Planning and Environmental Study. IDOT has responsibility for planning, construction and maintenance of Illinois' extensive transportation network, which encompasses, highways and bridges, airports, public transit, rail freight and rail passenger systems. The mission of IDOT is to provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity, and demonstrate respect for the environment.

FHWA

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the lead federal agency for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process. The vision of the FHWA is to create the best transportation system in the world for the American people through proactive leadership, innovation, and excellence in service. They also provide expertise, resources, and information to continually improve the quality of our nation's highway system and its inter-modal connections. We undertake this mission in cooperation with all of our partners to enhance the country's economic vitality, quality of life, and the environment. The FHWA is a part of the Department of Transportation and is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with field offices across the United States.

Strand Associates, Inc.

A consultant team lead by Strand Associates, Inc. will conduct the Phase I Planning and Environmental Study. Founded in 1946, Strand is a multidisciplinary engineering firm serving the needs of public and private clients throughout the USA, with offices in seven states. The Illinois Route 47 Phase I Study is being performed in their Joliet, Illinois office.
